The North Tongu District on 16th April, 2019 Commissioned a Three (3) Unit Classroom Block at Melenu. Present at the occasion were the District Chief Execution (DCE) of North Tongu, Hon. Richard Collins Arku, The DCD, Mr. Prosper Agbenyo, Mr. Ebenezer Adegah – The District Engineer, Madam Stella Kpodo – District Planning Officer, Mr. Simon Adom – The District Environmental Health Officer, some Staff Members of the District Assembly, Honorable Assembly Members of Melenu and its environs and the Chiefs and people of Melenu.
The Chief of Melenu expressed his gratitude for the facility and said he hoped the project was the beginning of more projects to be enjoyed by citizens of Melenu. He entreated the District Education Directorate to post Teachers to the school so that teaching and learning can start as soon as possible.
An Assembly member of the area was delighted with locating the school building in her jurisdiction and challenged parents to send their children to school for a better future. In her speech, she made reference to the District Planning Officer who is a female and making tremendous impact in the North Tongu District Assembly. He was surprised with how quickly the project was completed.
The representative of the District Education Director, Mr. Joseph Adeti, speaking on behalf of the Education Director said the Education Directorate will see to it that Teachers are posted to the school and make sure that teaching and learning materials are made available. He appealed to the Chiefs to live in harmony with the Teachers because there are few Teachers in the district. He also appealed to the Assembly to build an accommodation facility for the Teachers.
On his part, the DCE applauded the Engineer for a good work done. He also implored students to be respectful and cautioned both students and teachers on brining issues from the house to school and vice versa. He also encouraged parents to advice their wards to take their lessons seriously. He was hopeful the road network leading to the school and some parts of the community will soon be fixed.
The Chairman for the occasion took advantage of the high-level personalities present to plead for some more developmental projects for the community some of which are Corn mills for grinding shea butter, having a separate electoral area for Melenu and provision of furniture for the classrooms.
The project brought smile and joy on the faces of both students and parents in the community and the DCE was hopeful of constructing more school buildings in the district. The Nana Akuffo Addo led Administration sees education as the single most important resource a country can give its people. Natural resources don’t build a nation, it is people who do, and therefore investing in the human resource is very important to any nation.
